Due\u00a0to no\u00a0regulating\u00a0bodies,\u00a0there are major disparities\u00a0in\u00a0broadband\u00a0delivery\u00a0which\u00a0has\u00a0evolved\u00a0over many years\u00a0borne from redlining data-contrast=\"auto\">Redlining<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">stems\u00a0from when public and private companies\u00a0outlined\u00a0red lines on city maps to\u00a0highlight between rich white neighborhoods who were considered\u00a0as\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">lucrative<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for financial services such as mortgages and loans and those thought\u00a0to be\u00a0unsuitable\u00a0and thus denied access to the same products and services.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This prejudice\u00a0has caused a disproportionate amount of disinvestment in communities of color\u00a0and lower\u00a0socio-economic\u00a0groups,\u00a0and\u00a0has extended to\u00a0digital connectivity where a lack of finance and investment\u00a0in broadband\u00a0affects\u00a0millions of\u00a0low-income\u00a0neighborhoods all over the US\u00a0leaving many residents without\u00a0internet\u00a0access at home,\u00a0the\u00a0capacity for children to\u00a0be\u00a0home schooled\u00a0and many unable to\u00a0work from home.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Digital redlining\u00a0as\u00a0it\u00a0has\u00a0become\u00a0more widely\u00a0known\u00a0is also being seen\u00a0amongst national service providers whose aim is to target\u00a0cheaper and faster\u00a0fiber services to those residents\u00a0living in\u00a0predominantly rural areas\u00a0with\u00a0higher-than-average\u00a0incomes leaving everyone else behind\u00a0with\u00a0overpriced, low quality\u00a0and\u00a0outdated\u00a0legacy infrastructures.\u00a0<\/span><span href=\"https:\/\/greenlining.org\/our-work\/technology-equity\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Greenlining Institute<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0was formed to\u00a0fight redlining, end discrimination\u00a0and foster research, organizing and policy-making\u00a0to\u00a0support racial and economic equality,\u00a0and has grown to incorporate digital technology\u00a0stating that\u00a0broadband is a necessity\u00a0as important as water and electricity and\u00a0should\u00a0be attainable for everyone no matter where they live or what they data-contrast=\"auto\">The basis of its standards focuses on <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Access &amp; Affordability, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Supplier Diversity, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Data Privacy &amp; Redlining<\/span><span by\u00a0SiFi\u00a0Networks\u00a0commending\u00a0opening\u00a0the market\u00a0up\u00a0to several ISP\u2019s\u00a0who compete to offer the best possible service\u00a0and\u00a0in doing so providing the customer with real choice.\u00a0\u00a0It is a standard that\u00a0the Institute\u00a0believes\u00a0will\u00a0help\u00a0beyond\u00a0tackling the digital divide\u00a0by\u00a0allowing redlined communities\u00a0to be a part of the digital age where\u00a0digitalization is the driving force of innovation.<\/span><span works\u00a0to stop redlining\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0close the digital divide\u00a0in the cities it is deploying its network in.\u00a0\u00a0By constructing a citywide network that passes every home in
